Portrayal
These woofers were pulled from two Canadian Vitavox Klipschorns that I gained 15 years prior.
I as of late cleaned and fixed the somewhat corroded magnet structures with Metal Wax brand items. If it’s not too much trouble see the previously, then after the fact pictures.
Both 100%-unique woofers are completely practical.
Voice loop DCRs are 11.1 Ohms and 12.4 Ohms, which are right values for these ostensible 15 Ohm drivers.
From a mid 50’s-vintage Vitavox K15/40 spec sheet:
“A Ticonal magnet supplies most extreme vitality inside the crevice… ” with “Aggregate valuable flux” of “260,000 lines”. Ticonal was and is the most intense AlNiCo compound.
These drivers are the exceptional 30-35 Hz Fs variant for bass horns. If it’s not too much trouble see the photos – note the ‘LOW RESONANCE’ tag on the magnet. (The standard K15/40 has a 42 Hz thunderous recurrence.)
Likewise from the Vitavox spec sheet:
“An uncommon rendition of the speaker is accessible for fitting in low recurrence horns of the sort utilized as a part of double channel (2-path) establishments in films.”
Q component is low, so these short journey woofers just function admirably in bass horns, they are not appropriate for ported or fixed boxes.
I had the Vitavox Klipschorns set up as a second framework in my room and they sounded incredible. Bass levels coordinated, mono recordings were flawlessly focused.
As should be obvious in the photos, both cones appear to be in superb condition. However the firm paper cones are 55-60 years of age; look carefully and you will see a couple of early push cracks on the shaped paper suspensions.
One little split on the suspension of one of the cones has been (all around) repaired. A little area of espresso channel paper was stuck to the rear of the break and fixed with dim acrylic craftsman’s paint. This patch is practically imperceptible and does not influence execution. The front side of the break is not fixed but rather the crack is stuck to the patch on the posterior. The repair is somewhat obvious on the front side, the paper is marginally darker from the weakened shroud paste. If it’s not too much trouble see the photographs.
I would encourage the purchaser to paint the front and rears of the encompasses with fluid silicon (like JBL did with the 150-4C) to strengthen the shaped paper and avoid breaking.
The resuscitated Vitavox organization fabricate second era K15/40s ($4,000 each) however the magnets are presently AlCoMAX 3 not Ticonal. To be reasonable a Vitavox rep let me know that new creation K15/40 “crevice field quality is practically identical to (and regularly more noteworthy than) original models”.
$400 substitution cone packs might be requested from Vitavox. The first style units are conveyed totally collected including voice loops and bugs. Field substitution is simple, the cones and bugs screw to the casings through prepunched gaps, so no stresses over focusing the voice curls.
As indicated by a Vitavox rep “all ebb and flow creation 15″ cone gatherings are completely perfect with all Vitavox 15″ driver models, both vintage and cutting edge”.
The packs are accessible in 8 Ohm or 15 Ohm adaptations, however Vitavox no more offer a low reverberation cone unit. The rep told me however, that K15/40s with customary cones work fine and dandy in bass horns.
Purchaser pays for transportation. I just utilize the U.S. Postal Service unless the purchaser sends me a prepaid USPS or FEDEX shipping name.
I am interested in exchange offers.
A debt of gratitude is in order for taking a gander at the K15/40s. I have another U.S. Sound Mart promotion posted in a matter of seconds for a solitary Vitavox S2 pressure driver and will post advertisements soon for two Vitavox CN232 hybrid systems and two Vitavox CN157 dispersive horns.
